The MAX14720 / MAX14750 are compact power management solutions for space-constrained, battery-powered applications where size and efficiency are critical. Both devices integrate a power switch, a linear regulator, a step-down regulator, and a step-up / step-down regulator.
The MAX14720 is designed as a primary-side power management device, suitable for non-rechargeable batteries (button cells, bi-alkaline batteries) applications, or rechargeable solutions for battery pluggable and independent charging. The device includes a button monitor and a sequencer.
The MAX14750 is a good match for chargers or PMICs in rechargeable applications. The device provides direct pin control for each function for more flexible sequence control.
The device includes two programmable Micro-IQs, multiple high-efficiency switching converters: a step-up / step-down regulator and a synchronous step-down regulator. These regulators have a burst mode to improve efficiency at light loads.
The low dropout linear regulator has a programmable output and can also be used as a power switch to disconnect static loads from system peripherals.
The device also includes a power switch with battery monitoring capability. This switch isolates the battery from all system loads when not in use, maximizing battery life. Switches can also be used to isolate battery impedance measurements. It can also be used as a universal load switch.
The MAX14720 includes a programmable power controller that allows the device to be configured for applications that require true off-state or applications that are always on. The controller provides delayed reset signals, voltage sequence, and customized button timing for on / off control and recovery from hard reset.
Both devices also include a multiplexer to monitor the power input and output of each function.
The device uses 25 solder balls, 0.4mm solder ball pitch, 2.26mm x 2.14mm wafer level package (WLP), and operates over the -40 ° C to + 85 ° C extended temperature range.
